Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
by Tennessee Williams
Avarice, greed, sex, death and dysfunction...just another day in the life of a genteel, Southern family. Come take a peek into the workings of the Pollitt family: Big Daddy is coming home after a lengthy illness and is looking forward to ruling his Delta empire. His family has other plans.
The Wimberley Players interpretation of this Tennessee Williams classic, set in 1950’s Mississippi, opens July 30. Guest Director is David Schneider, President of the Gaslight Theatre in Lockhart.
Jose Shenker, of Austin, is the personification of Big Daddy, complete with commanding voice and presence. Carla Daws is poignant as Big Mama, a woman desperate to hold onto the ones she loves. Deanna Lalich simply sizzles as Maggie the Cat. Brian Villalobos, also of Austin, plays a sensual, brooding and tortured Brick to a “T”.
Rick Fitzgerald as Gooper, Melinda Ellisor as Mae, Dan Williams as Doc Baugh and Dan LaFleur as Reverend Tooker beautifully round out the cast, completing the picture of a family on the brink of change. You’ll hold your breath waiting to see what happens next.
Come out and see a few old friends and some new faces on the Wimberley Playhouse stage. You’ll certainly walk away with a Southern drawl.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof runs from July 30 to August 22. Tickets are $18 except opening night ($25, including reception). They may be ordered online at any time at www.wimberleyplayers.org or through the box office (512-847-0575).
